On March 26, more than 60 prospective students and family members attended a tour of Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto, hosted by the Aviation Management Advisory Committee at Georgian College. This informative tour offered insight into the various career possibilities in aviation and provided a practical view of what the future could hold for graduates of Georgian College’s Aviation Management Program.

Georgian Business student named Canadian Co-op Student of the Year
Sven Hansen, a student in Georgian College’s Business Administration – Marketing program, has been named 2010 Co-op Student of the Year by the Canadian Association of Co-operative Education (CAFCE). He is also Georgian College’s Co-op Student of the Year.

Summer Bly named to CCAA All Canadian team
Georgian’s Summer Bly was named to the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) All Canadian team, as the CCAA announced its major award winners at the women’s basketball national championship banquet held March 16 at Niagara College.
Bly, a 5’11” fourth-year forward, was the backbone of the Grizzlies’ offense and defense. She led her team in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and steals, and recorded nine double-doubles this season. She averaged 15 points per game and 9.7 rebounds, while leading the league in blocked shots with 55. Read more...
Georgian leads the way in electronic waste recycling
Georgian College is taking another step forward as an environmental leader in implementing a college-wide electronic waste recycling program.
Effective Feb. 14, all electronic waste, including cell phones, at all Georgian campuses will be collected and processed by GEEP (Global Electric Electronic Processing Inc.) of Barrie. Under terms of the contract, Georgian will receive a rebate based on the amount of waste that GEEP collects and processes. Read more...
Minister of International Trade speaks to students
The Honourable Peter Van Loan, Canadian Minister of International Trade, addressed students in the Georgian College Theatre at the Barrie Campus on Feb. 22. Minister Van Loan, MP for York-Simcoe, discussed Canada’s current foreign trade initiatives and accomplishments and future aspirations in an ever expanding global market. Canada’s economy is two-thirds trade-related and Van Loan is striving to create as many free trade agreements as possible with nations around the world. His top priority is working toward a free trade agreement with the European Union, which could mean an additional $12 billion in annual revenue for Canada.
