Georgian to match County of Simcoe bursaries for postsecondary students

Georgian College will be matching the County of Simcoe in offering bursaries to new students to assist in their postsecondary studies beginning in September.

The County recently announced up to 21 $3,000 bursaries, through its Education Bursary Program, are available to County of Simcoe residents attending a postsecondary institution in Ontario. For those successful applicants who are registered to attend Georgian in September, the college will automatically offer a matching $3,000 bursary.

“We’re excited to partner with the County of Simcoe to offer local residents even more reason to choose Georgian for their postsecondary education,” says Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes, President and CEO, Georgian College. “We encourage future students to get to know Georgian and experience everything we have to offer. This matching bursary opportunity will give those selected by the County 3,000 more reasons to come to Georgian.”

Georgian offers more than 130 career-focused programs at its seven campuses, is a recognized leader in co-operative education and has one of the highest graduate employment rates among Ontario colleges.

Eligible bursary applicants must follow the County of Simcoe’s application process including:

  • Be a resident of a participating Simcoe County municipality and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Have graduated, or be eligible for graduation in the year of application, from a secondary school in Simcoe County
  • Demonstrate interest in, and contribution to, their community through active participation in extracurricular activities at their school and/or in community organizations
  • Submit a 500-word essay on a pre-determined topic, as well as an explanation as to why they should be awarded a bursary

Applicants must also provide a copy of their Grade 12 or first-year postsecondary transcript and proof of enrolment at an Ontario university or college in an undergraduate program as a full-time student.

This Education Bursary Program is consistent with the County’s commitment to education, as well as encouraging community involvement and civic responsibility.
