Willi Blum is the founder and principal of Meridian Training Associates Inc., a designer of custom training programs and specialized management materials for prominent auto importers. He takes pride in calling himself an automotive “life-timer” and particularly in his start in the industry as a Journeyman Auto Mechanic. Willi has worked at the retail level as a Technician, Shop Foreman and Service Manager, semi-professionally campaigned a series of racing cars in the ’60s (Canadian Touring Car Champion in 1968) and held a variety of management and executive positions over a 21-year corporate career with BMW, General Motors, and Mazda, most recently as Group Vice-President, Parts & Service, at Mazda Canada. Initially teaching part-time in the Degree Program, Willi joined the faculty full-time in April 2004. He teaches Management Principles, Parts & Service Management, Entrepreneurship, and Strategic Management in the Degree; Introduction to Dealership Fixed Operations, and Principles of Management in the Diploma; and has in past semesters taught Automotive Technology, Introduction to the Aftermarket, Aftermarket Product Development, Dealership Financial Analysis, and Automotive Management. Willi holds a Liberal Arts Diploma from Douglas College in New Westminster, a B.Comm. (Finance) from the University of Calgary, and an MBA (International Business) from the Schulich School of Business at York University.
