Portrait of Alumnus Captain Scott Bravener, smiling and standing in front of a brick wallAs president and CEO of Lower Lakes group of companies, and its subsidiary Lower Lakes Transportation, Captain Scott Bravener oversees 500 employees and the transportation of 18-million metric tons of materials annually on its 16 vessels throughout the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System.

But the focus of this Marine Technology Navigation graduate is on green technology. He has blazed new trails in the shipping industry with Lower Lakes Towing being the first company on the Great Lakes to successfully trial a zero discharge system for the treatment of bilge water and treated sewage effluent.

In 2013, Bravener was named Great Lakes Man of the Year by the Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He is also past president of the Marine Club of Canada.
