Students explore the field of Child and Youth Care (CYC) and the complex challenges facing children, youth and families. Students explore core concepts which are threaded through the program, including risk and resilience, the ecological perspective, and relational practice. The role of the child and youth care practitioner in various settings including schools, residential, judicial and community based programs is considered. CYC domains of practice and competencies as well as CYC professional certification are introduced.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
