TRANSPORT CANADA MARINE SAFETY AND SECURITY TRAINING CERTIFICATE AND EXAM FEES
A Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS) training certificate will be issued upon successful completion of course hours and exams, as required by TCMSS. The examiner from TCMSS will request an examination fee of $55 for the PPS, SEN 1 and SEN 2 exams. Payment by certified cheque (payable to Transport Canada) is acceptable. We will require your Candidate Document Number issued by TCMSS.
NOTE: If you are requesting a reprint of a TCMSS training certificate, you must include a letter of explanation outlining the circumstances, plus a copy of the lead page in your discharge book. If you do not have a discharge book, we require a copy of your driver’s licence. This does not automatically guarantee the replacement of the TCMSS training certificate. A charge of $54 applies and must be paid in advance.
CANDIDATE DOCUMENT NUMBER (CDN)
Persons who require a Canadian Maritime Document or other Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS) documents, issued by or on behalf of TCMSS under Part 3 of the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 (CSA 2001), must first obtain a Candidate Document Number (CDN). Applications for a CDN can be obtained from the TCMSS website.
NOTE: As of May 2016, Candidate Documentation Numbers are no longer required for enrolling in STCW MED courses, non-STCW MED courses, Marine Basic First Aid or Marine Advanced First Aid. However, they are required for candidates applying for Certificates of Proficiency or Certificates of Competency. Please note that a CDN will continue to be a prerequisite for all non-MED courses such as those designated as navigation or engineering courses. Please refer to individual course requirements for more information.
Candidates must have a minimum of 90 per cent attendance for in-class/theory portion. However, attendance must be 100 per cent in skill demonstration to obtain the TCMSS training certificate. 90 per cent attendance is only to accommodate force majeure circumstances that may prevent a candidate from achieving full 100 per cent attendance.
CLOSURE DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS
Georgian College will remain open for all classes and services unless extreme weather conditions dictate closure or class cancellation. The safety of staff, students and visitors, accessibility of the campus, operational status of public transit, road condition reports, closure of nearby campuses, schools, businesses and highways will all be taken into consideration when making a decision. Closure of the college and widespread cancellation of classes will be announced on our website and on local radio stations. Please note that in some cases, the Centre for Marine Training and Research may remain open despite campus closures.
Class start times vary and dates generally include weekends. Please check your confirmation material for your class start time. If changes occur to the class start time, you will be notified either by phone or email.
The cafeteria (Owen Sound MarketPlace) is open Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Owen Sound MarketPlace is closed on evenings and weekends. On campus, you will find common areas that have a fridge and microwave if you would like to bring your own meals, as well as coffee makers. There are other food options (fast food, restaurants, Tim Hortons, grocery stores) within a 15-minute walk or short drive of the campus.
