“We are very excited to share our show with Barrie and the surrounding communities,” says Shannon Douglas, Media Relations for the student-run 2014 Auto Show Committee. “At least 23 automotive manufacturers will be represented and the show is complemented by great attractions. With new and returning popular exhibits supported by our driven team of 150 student volunteers, we think it’ll be the best auto show yet.”
The Georgian College Auto Show attracts more than 15,000 visitors each year from across southern Ontario. Organized by students attending Georgian’s Automotive Business School of Canada at the Barrie Campus, the show has something for everyone – from the classic car fan to the high-powered sports car enthusiast to the couple looking for the perfect new family vehicle.
New this year is the Electric Vehicle Experience, which will provide visitors with the opportunity to test drive an electric vehicle. The young and young-at-heart will enjoy KidZone, hosted by the YMCA. The show also features classic and modified cars, an automotive performance area, and live music.
Two professional drivers will be on hand to spin brave participants around a wet Pfaff Porsche Test Track in Porsche 911s, for a small donation to charity. This is always a popular attraction.
Grand Touring Automobiles is returning with a selection of beautiful exotics. Other fun exhibits include Lombardi Honda Racing and a distracted driving simulator. A live auction, featuring items donated by car manufacturers and local businesses, will be held on May 31 at 1 p.m.
“We would like to thank auto show supporters for making this dream a reality year after year,” says Douglas.
The show is open Friday, May 30 from noon to 6 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily admission is $7 for adults. Kids 12 and younger get in free.
