Students create startups at hands-on weekend event

More than 15 Georgian students participated in Startup Weekend at the Barrie Campus Oct. 3 to 5. Matt Howe and Tristan Gemus received the top prize – a $5,000 investment in their startup “Room Mate Reach.”

Startup Weekend brings together people who want to learn how to launch a business and find out if their ideas are viable. It’s a hands-on, grassroots initiative that has been run in 120 countries so far in 2014.
