Owen Sound students open hearts to homeless
February 21, 2014

Students from the Police Foundations, Personal Support Worker and Early Childhood Education programs at the Owen Sound Campus hopped on a bus recently and ventured to Toronto to volunteer at the Scott Mission men’s shelter.

Two female students sort clothing in a grocery cart at Scott Mission.

This is the first time students from more than one program area at Georgian were included in the annual field trip.

Students learned about homelessness and the services shelters provide to clients in the downtown core, then they rolled up their sleeves and donated their time to help out-a Georgian tradition for more than 10 years! Some students served meals in the soup kitchen, some sorted and packaged food for clients, while others organized giant bins of donated clothing.

Students also brought their own donations and passed around a hat at the end of the day, leaving what money they could to further assist the efforts of the shelter.
