Free movie screening with award-winning actress and producer

On Monday, March 24, everyone is invited to a free screening of Empire of Dirt – the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival’s Best Canadian Feature Film – organized by Georgian College’s School of Indigenous Studies.

Empire of Dirt, a film by Peter Stebbings. School of Indigenous Studies presents: Screening of Empire of Dirt with award winning actress and producer Jennifer Podemski. The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with the film’s star and co-producer, Jennifer Podemski. Podemski, an Innisfil resident, is also known for her roles in films like Take This Waltz and Dance Me Outside.

The event will take place at Georgian College’s Barrie Campus, in Alumni Hall (Room K229). Doors open at 6 p.m. and the screening will start at 7 p.m.

SYNOPSIS: Going home was never an option for single mother Lena Mahikan (Cara Gee). But when her 13-year-old daughter, Peeka (Shay Eyre), overdoses in the streets of Toronto, Lena is forced to return home to her estranged mother and face a life-long legacy of shame and resentment. Empire of Dirt is a story about second chances and summoning up the power of family to soothe the pain of cyclical damage.
