Field trip offers students a rare opportunity
March 01, 2012

Professors Dave Aves and Norm Smith took students on a field trip to Toronto Feb. 15 to provide them with a contemporary context of what’s happening in both the Canadian and global automotive sectors. The trip was a great complement to course material being covered in Dave’s Global Automotive course and a course Norm is teaching as part of the graduate certificate in International Business Management.

Students met with Carlos Gomes, a senior Scotiabank economist, Jane Voll from the Bank of Canada and Diana Petramala from TD Waterhouse. They learned about the enormous potential of Ontario’s automotive industry and the cyclical nature of the automotive sector. Students were also given the rare opportunity to see a modern trading floor in action at the Scotia Towers with seasoned traders James MacKinnon and Boris Nikic.

For more information on the trip, e-mail Norm Smith at nsmith@georgiancollege.ca or call him at ext. 1057.
