Board Chair announces new President and CEO
May 22, 2012

This message has been sent on behalf of Charlotte Wallis, Chair, Georgian College Board of Governors.

MaryLynn West-Moynes will become the next President and CEO of Georgian College.

On behalf of the entire Board of Governors, I am extremely pleased to announce that MaryLynn West-Moynes will become the next President and CEO of Georgian College. She will assume her duties on August 7, 2012.

MaryLynn is a dynamic leader with extensive academic and administrative experience in post-secondary education in Ontario, having held senior positions at both the college and university level. Currently, she is Vice President of External Relations at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). Previously, she served as President of Mohawk College, and in numerous senior leadership roles at both UOIT and Durham College.

Recently, MaryLynn successfully defended her dissertation and will receive her PhD next month from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Her research examined organizational culture and leadership skills in Ontario colleges. She also holds an MA in adult education from Central Michigan University and a BASc from the University of Guelph.

MaryLynn brings a breadth of experience gained over 27 years in the post-secondary system. Since beginning her post-secondary career as an Early Childhood Education faculty member, she has attained progressively responsible senior positions in both academic and administrative portfolios. She has extensive experience in leading strategic planning; championing co-operative education, international and curriculum initiatives; and forging innovative college and university partnerships and pathways. She has also been responsible for establishing community, government and industry relationships, leading student services, marketing, communications, branding and fundraising teams, and undertaking major financial management and capital expansion projects.

While eminently qualified to be our next President and CEO, all members of the presidential search committee were particularly impressed by MaryLynn’s true passion for the college system and our students. It is her unwavering conviction that focus must be maintained on understanding students and ensuring their success. She clearly demonstrates a career-long history of being personally connected to students.

MaryLynn was the unanimous choice of the selection committee, chosen from a very strong field of candidates in this national search. She brings a philosophy of collaboration, teamwork, pro-active problem solving and accountability. She is looking forward to visiting each Georgian campus and community as soon as possible.

With her husband Doug Moynes, MaryLynn has two sons, a daughter-in-law, one grandchild and a beloved dog named Fraser. She and Doug will soon begin their search for a home in our region.

Over the next few weeks, members of the board will recognize the many achievements of President and CEO Brian Tamblyn as he prepares to retire on June 30. I hope that you will join in one of the celebrations of his long and distinguished service to Georgian. Brian and MaryLynn will liaise closely over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition in the President’s office.

In the interim period from July 1 to August 6, Brandon Lander, Vice-President of Administration and Secretary-Treasurer for the board, will take on any expanded duties that may arise from the president’s office during this transitional time.

I wish to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to our extensive consultations for this presidential search process. The time you committed to this process and your thoughtful input was integral to this successful outcome.

Finally, I must personally thank the members of the presidential selection committee for their commitment and contribution throughout this six-month long search. Their dedicated and tireless deliberations ensured that we have found an exceptional new president who will lead us into our challenging, exciting and rewarding future at Georgian College.
