The Georgian College Residence takes the safety and security of its residents very seriously. The areas below outline some of the steps that we take to ensure that all members of the Residence Community get the most out of their experience.
Electronic Card Access
You will be issued an electronic swipe card that will grant you access to the Residence, to your suite and to your bedroom. These cards are similar to those you may have seen in some hotels.
Guests & Visitors
Access to the Residence is controlled at the front entrance to increase your safety. In the evening guests or visitors to the Residence have to be signed in at the Front Desk in the front lobby and you have to escort them into the building. To promote the creation of the Residence community, limitations on the number of overnight guests have been put in place as well. You can find more information on the Guest Policy by checking out Guests in Residence or Residence Community Standards under the Living in Residence link off of the Housing & Residence Life home page.
Security Cameras
Several closed-circuit television cameras have been placed in various locations in and around the Residence to record activity in certain areas.
Live-in Staff
Sixteen student staff and one full-time staff member live in the Residence along with you and the other residents to help facilitate the growth of the Residence community. Their role is to provide support and guidance to you as well as respond to certain issues that may arise in a student residence environment.
Emergency & Fire Procedures
The Residence is equipped with smoke and heat detectors, fire extinguishers, hoses and alarms that are all checked regularly. Additional information will be posted and outlined to all residents once everyone moves into the building.
