Baldev Pooni, VP, Academic

Baldev Pooni, VP, AcademicBaldev Pooni brings to Georgian more than 25 years of experience in the college sector. He’s held progressively responsible academic and senior management positions in the community college system in Canada. Along with teaching, Baldev has served as Vice President of Education and Student Services, Dean of Trades and Technology, and Chair of Civil and Mechanical Engineering Technology. Prior to his postsecondary career, his work experience ranged from apprentice technician to research mechanical engineer.

Baldev’s broad range of experience includes academic and strategic planning, and program review and renewal. He’s led numerous efforts that resulted in expanded academic pathways with university partners, as well as innovations in technology-enhanced learning, Aboriginal programming, international education and continuing education. Baldev has also served as a representative for colleges in British Columbia on ministry-led initiatives in such areas as education planning and trades training development.

At Georgian, Baldev is helping to advance and achieve the college’s strategic vision and mandate. He is responsible for all programming in the classroom and for providing leadership to six deans and directors and more than 1,100 faculty members across the college’s seven campuses.

Baldev leads and empowers an experienced and dedicated team of academic, administrative and support staff to champion strategic academic planning, program review, quality assurance and development. Baldev also oversees university partnerships, strategic enrolment management, and applied research to achieve excellence in teaching, learning and student success at Georgian. He provides effective stewardship of capital and operational resources, and contributes to community support and development by fostering strong partnerships and college fundraising efforts.

Baldev holds a Master of Science in Application of Computers in Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Teesside University in England.

Lisa Banks, VP Communications, Marketing and External Relations Lisa has 25 years of marketing and communications experience in both the public and private sector. Prior to joining Georgian Lisa served as the Director of Communications and Marketing and then acting Vice President, External Relations at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT).

Before joining UOIT in 2009, Lisa held progressively responsible marketing and communications positions at Bell Canada, culminating in the role of Senior Director, Community Affairs.

At Georgian, Lisa leads the development and execution of an integrated marketing and communications strategy that includes corporate communications, marketing, web development, student recruitment, fund development, alumni relations, conference and event services and government relations.

Lisa holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University.

She has served on committees for Imagine Canada and the Council of Ontario Universities, and has volunteered her time as a non-profit board member.

Catherine Drea, VP, Student Engagement

Catherine Drea, VP Student Engagement Catherine has extensive experience in the field of student engagement and has led large student services portfolios in both the college and university sectors. Catherine was Director, Office of Student Life at the University of Toronto St. George campus. Previously, she was Associate Vice President at UOIT and Vice President at Mohawk College. Catherine has also worked at Humber, Seneca and Durham colleges.

Catherine brings provincial government experience to Georgian, including time spent at Employment Ontario as Director, Service Delivery Branch and Ontario Director of Apprenticeship for the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Focused on student success, engagement and retention at Georgian, Catherine is responsible for Student Services, the Registrar’s Office (admissions, registration, scheduling, records, student information system, financial aid, and convocation), Library Services, the International Centre and Georgian Stores. She acts as the primary advocate for the provision of services and supports that enhance the quality of education and student life at Georgian and contributes to the recruitment and retention of domestic and international students.

Catherine is an influential voice for students on their needs and expectations. Working collaboratively across the college, she influences Georgian’s strategic, academic and operational priorities.

Catherine holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University, a Master of Arts in Education from Central Michigan University and a Doctor of Education from the University of Toronto. Her doctoral thesis focused on the government role in student accessibility in colleges. She has authored numerous articles, is a member of the School of Graduate Studies at OISE/University of Toronto, teaches for Central Michigan University and is a volunteer non-profit board member.

Brandon Lander, VP, Administration

sr-team-brandon Brandon Lander is Vice President, Administration, at Georgian College. He joined Georgian in October 1984 as a Financial Planning Analyst and shortly thereafter became Director, Financial Planning. He moved to his current position in 1992.

Brandon holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master of Arts degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, and a Master of Business Administration from York University.

He is responsible for the management of a diverse portfolio of activities and departments at Georgian, including Physical Resources (construction, renovations, security, food services, janitorial services and parking), Accounting, Financial Planning, General Administration, Legal, Risk Management, Purchasing, Printing, Shipping / Receiving / Mail Services and the Kempenfelt Conference Centre.

Brandon serves as the Secretary-Treasurer to the Georgian College Board of Governors.

Previously, he worked in the university sector and banking sector in management positions.

Angela Lockridge, VP Human Resources and Organizational Planning Angela Lockridge is Vice President, Innovation, Planning and Accountability at Georgian College. She is a seasoned executive with a wealth of experience in the private and public sectors. Beginning her career with General Motors of Canada, Angela moved into the Ontario Public Service (OPS). Most recently she has served as Assistant Deputy Minister within the Family Responsibility Office – ServiceOntario and the Ontario Provincial Police. During her 20 years in the OPS she also held positions in the Ministry of Correctional Services, Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ministry of the Attorney General and Management Board Secretariat.

Angela joined the Georgian team in July 2010 and has expertise in the areas of human resource management, organizational development, diversity and accessibility, relationship building, strategic planning, change management and transformation, performance accountability, client services, and fiscal and systems management. She has led major strategic initiatives within the OPS, working with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to create positive and effective relationships and business systems.
In her current role, Angela is accountable for Organizational Planning and Development (including organizational renewalstrategic planning, institutional research and space planning), Human Resources, Employment Equity, Labour RelationsInformationTechnology and Campus Security.
Angela has provided strategic support and advice while ensuring that human resource plans are aligned with corporate direction including leadership development, succession planning, learning and development, formal recognition, staff engagement strategies, and measurement/accountability systems.
Community involvement is very important to Angela. She is a member of the Gilda’s Club of Simcoe Muskoka Board of Directors as well as a board member for Barrie Police Service.
She holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Certified Management Accountant.
