Soon-to-be-student wins tablet
November 06, 2014

Samantha, smiling, holds her tablet.Samantha Rockett is the lucky winner of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. The Grade 12 student from Shelburne, ON, filled out a ballot at the College Information Fair in Toronto.

“It was a busy day and I was tired, so I wasn’t even going to put my name in,” she says. “I’m so glad I did.”

She’d like to study in the field of Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation – possibly hotel management. After getting her diploma, she aims to complete an event planning graduate certificate. Her ultimate goal is to work in the industry and then open her own event planning firm.

“I like planning events, working with people and organizing stuff-and a lot of event planners get hired in hotels and resorts,” she explains. “Plus I took food right through high school and really enjoyed it, so this should be a good fit for me.”

Georgian is Samantha’s number one choice – just like her twin sister, Sarah, who wants to take the Massage Therapy Fast Track program. “We want to go to the same college,” Samantha says. “It’s not too far away so we can still come home on weekends, plus my sister-in-law went there and said it was a good school.”

As close as Samantha is to Sarah, there is a disadvantage to being a twin. “I’ll share the tablet – I have to!”

Both Samantha and Sarah hope to start in September, 2015. They’re coming to Georgian’s Open House on Saturday to check out Barrie Campus facilities, look at residence, and make sure it feels right.
