Support profiles the power of education and the positive impact students can make in their community

Georgian College has announced a $25,000 donation from RBC Foundation to Georgian’s John Di Poce South Georgian Bay Campus in support of enhanced post-secondary opportunities in the South Georgian Bay region.

“RBC is proud to bring this exciting initiative to life as it is the perfect example of how we can take a proactive approach around education to make a difference in the lives of residents in the Collingwood area,” said Steve Nixon, regional vice president, Barrie and Area, RBC. “We recognize the power of giving back to the communities where we live and work, and this grant is a testament to our confidence in the programs offered at Georgian College.”

Students are eager to learn in the new facility. Post-secondary program enrolment for the winter 2012 semester increased 70 per cent over the same time last year. Students can now choose from seven full-time courses, including the Business Fundamentals program beginning in September.
Growth is a result of the tremendous community support for the campus. RBC Foundation’s donation brings the college to 82 per cent of its $750,000 community fundraising goal.

“Georgian is very thankful to RBC Foundation for the leadership it has demonstrated in support of local education. Together we are working to raise local education attainment levels for a prosperous future,” says Lynn Hynd, Regional Campus Manager.

The first class of students from the campus will graduate this June.
