The Georgian College Gord Bastian Variety Show is growing up, but that doesn’t mean the cast and crew has matured. When the show hits the stage on March 21 and 22, audience members can expect the usual brand of fun, comedy and music.
Since its inaugural outing in 1993, Georgian’s annual variety show has been entertaining staff, students and the community, while raising money for financially challenged students at the college. This year promises to deliver the same quality entertainment that audiences have grown to expect from the show over the last 20 years. “It’s hard to believe we’ve been doing this for 20 years now,” said Elaine Murray, director of the annual production. “This year’s show features many new staff and students, plus ukuleles and a banjo! How can you not have fun when those instruments are involved?”
Gord Bastian, founder of the show, passed away in the spring of 1999. Since then, Georgian College staff and students have continued to entertain audiences in his honour. His warm personality and great stage presence inspired all who knew him. Proceeds from the show will help fund the Gord Bastian Memorial Entrance Award.
The variety show will be held at the Georgian Theatre, Barrie Campus. Show time is 7 p.m. nightly, on Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22. Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time.
