Aboriginal skilled trades summer camp returns to Owen Sound in July
June 05, 2014

Building on the success of summer camps delivered in 2013, Georgian College and Hydro One are again working in partnership to deliver a fun and exciting skilled trades camp for Aboriginal youth at Georgian’s Owen Sound Campus in July 2014.

With hundreds of trades to choose from, Georgian and Hydro One are introducing youth to the many opportunities that are available right in their own backyard through Georgian College.

The camp is geared towards boys and girls in Grades 7 and 8, ages 12 to 14. There is no cost for qualified youth to participate. The three-day camp at the Owen Sound Campus runs from Tuesday, July 15 to Thursday, July 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It combines fun, hands-on workshops with exciting games and traditional crafts.

Campers will participate in skilled trades workshops covering such trades as electrical techniques, culinary, carpentry, marine technology, and welding.

Aboriginal youth in Owen Sound and neighbouring communities are invited to participate in this fun event. For more information or to register, email Heather Van Wyck or call 519.376.0840, ext. 2096 or email Marnie Speck at marnie.speck@georgiancollege.ca, or call 519.376.0840, ext. 2096.
