Georgian offers Hear Smarter – Communicate Easier workshop for seniors with hearing aids

Starting Wednesday, May 22, the Georgian College Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) program and the Harmonize for Speech, Hearing and Language Clinic will offer a
Hear Smarter – Communicate Easier workshop for seniors with hearing aids.HEARSMARTER

The classes take place over five weeks between May 22 and June 19 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. in the Sadlon Centre for Health, Wellness and Sciences, Barrie Campus, Room M233.

Cost is $20 for all five classes. Spouses and/or significant others are invited to attend for no additional cost. Metered parking is available for $1.25 per hour. The campus is wheelchair accessible.

Classes will focus on:

  • How to lip read
  • Understanding your audiogram
  • Advocacy
  • Communicating more effectively in group settings
  • Assistive listening devices (TV, phone)

“The Hear Smarter – Communicate Easier workshop is designed to help seniors with hearing aids become better communicators so they can live fuller and more social lives,” says Tani Nixon, Harmonize for Speech, Hearing and Language Clinic audiologist. “In my practice, I see a lot of seniors and they often tell me they would like to communicate more effectively in group settings and learn about new technology. The classes will cover all of this, and much more!”

Classes will be delivered by CDA students and Nixon.
