April 30, 2014

Soon-to-be student Karli is surrounded by Georgian bags, publications and gear as she drives back from Preview Day in Barrie.Woodstock native Karli Oosterveld was enjoying an ice-cream cone with her boyfriend when she got the news that she’d won Georgian’s Preview Day social media contest.

“I screamed – no pun intended – when I got the Twitter message saying I’d won,” she says. “I never win anything so I’m really excited.”

As soon as she got the news, Oosterveld raced to georgianstores.com to see what she could buy with her $100 gift certificate. The soon-to-be student is starting in Georgian’s Pre-Health program this fall and knows she’ll use her prize to purchase school supplies.

“I’m looking forward to learning the basics of health sciences,” she says. “I babysit a lot and love kids, so my goal is to take the nursing program and eventually go into pediatrics.”

Accompanied by her mother and boyfriend, Oosterveld visited the Barrie Campus on Preview Day, April 5. She instantly fell in love with the culture and atmosphere.

“The people who work at Georgian are so bubbly, and I loved the building I’ll be studying in – especially the labs.” She also enjoyed her tour of Georgian Green residence.

Before leaving Barrie for Woodstock, Oosterved snapped this photo of herself surrounded by Georgian Gear and submitted it via Instagram and Twitter with the contest hashtag #futureGCstudent.

“Social media is a great way to connect with students because that’s how we connect with friends,” she explains. “Technology is taking over.”

Oosterveld is one of four contest Preview Day social media contest winners. More than 60 potential Georgian students submitted tweets and photos of themselves taking part in Preview Day activities. The contest was open to all campuses and resulted in some fantastic engagement.

Congratulations to all winners!
