Georgian wants to kill paper cups
April 06, 2015

Mike from Environmental Technology with his reusable mugGeorgian has a proven commitment to environmental sustainability, but paper cups are getting between the college and its landfill diversion goals.

That’s why Georgian’s sustainability committee has launched the #GCKilltheCup campaign. Staff, students and campus visitors can participate from Thursday, April 2 to Tuesday, April 21 – just in time for Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22.

Modelled after the successful Kill the Cup campaign in the United States, participants are invited to tweet or Instagram selfies of themselves with their reusable mugs using the hashtag #GCKilltheCup for a chance to win a $300 Georgian Stores gift card.

Environmental Technology students and staff want you to bring a reusable mug to campus.

Anyone who brings a reusable mug to a campus coffee provider on Earth Day, April 22, will get a voucher for a free coffee.

The contest winner will be announced at Georgian’s Earth Day two-hour Campus Cleanup, taking place on Wednesday, April 22 at the Barrie, Midland, Orillia and Owen Sound campuses. A free lunch will be provided. At the Barrie Campus, it’ll be chili served by the senior leadership team. Participants are encouraged to register so that organizers don’t order too much food.
