As part of continuing efforts to meet the growing educational needs of central Ontario and beyond, Georgian College is offering eight new full-time programs, with classes beginning this fall.
Georgian now offers more than 100 full-time programs across its main campuses in Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound and regional campuses in Midland, Collingwood, Muskoka and Orangeville.
Among the new business program is the two-year Automotive Business. This diploma program at the Barrie Campus prepares students for a variety of positions in the automotive industry. Also new is Occupational Health and Safety Management. A one-semester graduate certificate program in Barrie, it is particularly attractive to degree or diploma graduates working in the human resource management field who need or want additional certification in health and safety.
Two new one-year certificate programs are being offered in the engineering technology area. Electrical Techniques is available at the Owen Sound and Midland campuses. It provides students with the theoretical and practical training to perform most basic electrical functions. Graduates are ready to apply for work as electricians’ helpers or apprentices, or may choose to continue their education in the Electrical Engineering Technician or Technologist post-secondary programs.
Environmental Techniques, available at the Barrie and Owen Sound campuses, provides students with a rock-solid foundation in environmental science skills, combined with an up-to-date knowledge of environmental regulations and policies. Graduates could work for municipalities in water and sewage treatment, for manufacturers following environmental regulations or with conservation authorities or government organizations.
At the Orillia Campus, the wraps are about to come off the new Protection, Security and Investigation program. A two-year diploma program, it replaces Law and Security Administration and to better reflect the needs of growing career areas.
Pharmacy Technician is the newest Barrie Campus health care-related offering. The two-year diploma program prepares graduates to work collaboratively with registered pharmacists in a unique and independent scope of practice within hospital and community pharmacy settings.
The brand-new Esthetician program is also offered at the Barrie Campus. It provides students with the knowledge, skills and professional competencies required for the esthetics industry. Graduates of this two-year diploma program are able to provide advanced spa services such as make-up and specialized skin, body and hand/foot treatments. In addition, students learn the business applications required to run their own small enterprises.
Community Integration through Co-operative Education (CICE) is designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities, brain injuries, mental health issues and other learning challenges. This program provides students with an opportunity to enhance their academic skills by offering the required supports in and out of the classroom. CICE enables students to develop vocational abilities in a number of career-related, supervised field placement experiences. It is a one-year college certificate program at the Barrie Campus.
