Zwarych and Coulson big winners at basketball awards

Georgian Grizzlies men’s basketball player Tequilan Zwarych and head coach Matt Coulson were recognized for their spectacular seasons at the awards banquet as part of the 2015 Belairdirect OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship in Oshawa on Friday.

Zwarych was named a CCAA All-Canadian after leading the nation in rebounding and being among the top point scorers. He was also recognized by being named to the OCAA East Division First All-Star Team.

The Whitby native led the Grizzlies in points (20.0/game), rebounds (13.9/game), blocks (1.3/game) and minutes (32.3/game). He finished eighth overall in the OCAA in scoring, first in rebounds and was fourth in blocks.

Zwarych also registered an incredible 16 double-doubles during the 20-game regular season.

Grizzlies head coach Matt Coulson was named the OCAA East Division’s Coach of the Year after leading the Grizzlies to 14-6 record. In his fourth season as head coach, Coulson led the Grizzlies to one of their finest years in team history, earning a bye to the OCAA Championship.

The Grizzlies open up the 2015 Belairdirect OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship on Friday afternoon when they face the Fanshawe Falcons at 3 p.m. in a quarter final match.
