The Georgian Grizzlies women’s volleyball team who had a tremendous regular season as east division champions were recognized at the 2015 OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship Awards Banquet held in Burlington on Thursday morning.
A total of six Grizzlies were honoured during the ceremony led by fifth year veteran Hannah Campbell.
Campbell, a native of Midland was named a CCAA All-Canadian as well as an OCAA east division 1st team all-star after adding to her illustrious collegiate career registering a career high 216 points. Georgian’s team captain was among the OCAA’s league leaders in points, kills, serving aces and blocks. She finishes her career second on the OCAA’s all-time career blocks list with 221.
The Grizzlies young star Brittany Coughlin was also recognized in several categories. The North Bay native was named the OCAA east division’s rookie of the year and a member of the east division all-rookie team. She was also named to the east division’s second-team all-stars after registering 2.4 points per set this season.
Also recognized was third year libero Alexandra Roy (Barrie) who was named to the east division first-team all-stars while her sister Mackenzie Roy (Barrie) was named a second-team all-star along with third year middle Allison Marshall (Orillia).
Georgian’s longest serving Head Coach Brad Graham was named as the OCAA east division’s coach of the year. In his 23rd season coaching the Grizzlies, Graham led the team to a 16-2 regular season record and a first place spot in the east division standings.
The Grizzlies open their 2015 OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship with a quarter-final match against the Durham Lords at 1pm on Thursday at the Redeemer University College campus in Ancaster.
