Cross country runner Ryan Fennell has been named Georgian Grizzlies Athlete of the Week after a sixth place finish at the 2014 OCAA Cross Country Championship.
Fennell, a student in the Laurentian @ Georgian psychology program continued his strong season with a sixth place finish out of well over one hundred runners at the championships held Saturday in North York.
The native of Aurora finished the eight kilometre course in a time of 28:51 which was less than a minute off the race winner’s time. He was also named to the men’s All-Ontario 1st Team at the OCAA Championship.
With his impressive finish, Fennell has qualified and will compete in the 2014 CCAA Cross Country National Championship in Calgary, Alberta from Nov. 6 through Nov. 8.
Also in consideration for this week’s award was men’s volleyball player Darien Haynes who had 16 points including an incredible 10 stuff blocks in his team’s first win of the season, women’s volleyball player Brittany Coughlin who led her team with 13 points and men’s basketball player Mark Brown who averaged 17 points per game for the Grizzlies this past weekend.
