Boischatel, Quebec – October 17th, 2013 – Georgian Grizzlies men’s golfer Colton Kalkanis had the best round of the day for the second day in a row at the PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championship held at the Royal Quebec Golf Club in Boischatel, Quebec.
Kalkanis, a native of Barrie, shot a 4-under 68 for the second consecutive day and now sits alone at the top of the leaderboard at 8-under. He sits five strokes ahead of three golfers, Alex Dumais (Humber), Kyle Morrison (Red Deer), and Darren Whitehouse (Fraser Valley) who are tied in second place at 3-under par.
Kalkanis is the defending gold medalist at the event having won by one stroke last year in Oshawa, Ontario.
Georgian’s men’s team is also sitting in medal contention after the second round tied for fifth place, seven strokes back of a bronze medal.
Alex Wilson (T-28th), Sterling Emery (T-39th), Clayton Connor (T-45th), Michel Sonnenburg (T-45th) round out the Grizzlies men’s contention and with a big day Friday, could help lead Georgian to their first men’s team medal since the Grizzlies took bronze at the event in 2010.
On the women’s side the Georgian team of Chloe Wells (T-17) and Cory Pond (T-20) are sitting in 8th spot.
