Oshawa, Ont. – The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced their 2012 golf major award winners on Tuesday night at the PING CCAA Golf National Championship banquet hosted by Durham College at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club.
Among the list was Georgian’s Colton Kalkanis, was one of sixteen student-athletes selected as a 2012 All-Canadian after he put together a strong season with the Grizzlies.
The first year Georgian golfer won the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men’s Individual Championship at Roseland Golf & Curling Club in Windsor, ON back on October 3rd, becoming the first Georgian Men’s golfer to win Gold since 1999. He also won the Durham College Open where he shot a 2-under par 70 and finished tied for third at the Fanshawe Invitational tournament with a round of 76.
The Hillsdale, ON native was also instrumental in leading the Georgian Grizzlies team to a silver medal finish at the OCAA Championships, a first place finish at Durham College Open and a second place finish at the Fanshawe Invitational tournament.
Kalkanis was also named the OCAA Athlete of the Week on October 9th.
The evented hosted by Durham College runs from October 15-19th with the first round of play underway beginning on Wednesday.
Both the Georgian Men’s and Women’s Golf teams have qualified for the National Championships and will be competing for the top prize.
