The Georgian Grizzlies women’s volleyball team had some bad breaks that led to a tough defeat at the hands of the Fanshawe Falcons in their opening match of the 2014 OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship hosted by Durham College in Oshawa.
After taking a tight first set 27-25, the Grizzlies dropped three straight sets 25-18, 25-23 and 25-19 to fall 3-1 to the Falcons.
Erin McClean (Barrie) was named player of the game for the Grizzlies.
Georgian can still take home a bronze medal and it will start again on Friday afternoon when they face the Conestoga Condors in an elimination game at 1 p.m.
Earlier in the day at the Championship banquet, several Grizzlies were recognized for their outstanding season.
Veterans Hannah Campbell (Midland) and Natalie Buck (Keswick) both received first team east division all-star selections, while Veronica Harrison (Cookstown) and Allison Marshall were each named second team all-stars.
