Grizzlies women’s basketball open with semifinal berth
October 06, 2014

Things are coming together for the Georgian Grizzlies women’s basketball team as they prepare for their 2014 OCAA regular season.

This past weekend they competed in the Durham College Big 8 Classic in Oshawa.

The Grizzlies opened their tournament schedule on Friday afternoon against the George Brown Huskies.

Georgian put together a terrific effort led by first year guard Hannah Pearsall (Guelph) who scored a team high 14 points. Returning forward Erial Barnard (Collingwood) also had 12 points in the victory.

The team’s next opponent, the Fanshawe Falcons would give the Grizzlies a tougher time on Saturday as they dashed Georgian’s hopes in the semi-final by a 61-38 score. The Falcons went on to win the tournament defeating the St. Clair Saints.

The Grizzlies will take the many positives from the tournament as they continue to prepare for the regular season. They will host the Redeemer Royals this Wednesday Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. followed by hosting the Georgian Fall Classic on Oct. 17 and 18, both at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
