Brooklin, ON – September 26th, 2013 – The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s golf teams were able to take first place titles Thursday afternoon at the Durham College Invitational held at Lakeridge Links in Brooklin, Ontario.The men’s team claimed first by two strokes over Humber College thanks to an outstanding performance from Orangeville’s Sterling Emery who finished the day with a 73, which was second overall individually.
The team was rounded out with solid, consistent rounds by Colton Kalkanis-75 (Hillsdale), Alex Wilson-77 (Orangeville) and Clayton Connor-78 (Newmarket).
The win was the men’s team’s second of the season having won the Fleming Invitational back on September 16th.
Cory Pond (Simcoe) along with women’s teammate Chloe Wells (Mississauga) put together 2nd and 3rd place finishes individually, which propelled them to the women’s team title at the event. This is their first victory of the season after a string of second and third place finishes leading up to Thursday’s tournament.
Both teams will be competing in the OCAA Championships which get underway Monday with the tournament wrapping up on Wednesday at Paris Grand Golf Club in Paris, Ontario.
