Playing in their first tournament of the 2014 OCAA season, the Georgian Grizzlies golf team had an impressive debut at the Fleming Invitational on Monday hosted at the Black Diamond Golf Club in Pontypool, ON.
The men’s golf team finished in first place defeating Fanshawe and Humber College by three strokes with a combined score of 312.
Grizzlies Jeff Beedham (Georgetown) and Matt Lemay (Barrie) were unfazed by the windy conditions and finished on top of the individual leaderboard with matching rounds of 3-over 75. Daniel Knapp (Burlington) finished just one stroke back with a round of 76, putting Georgian all over the leaderboard.
Other scores for the Grizzlies were from Blake Ulrich (Peterborough) who shot a 77, Michel Sonnenburg (Massey) and Mitch Ahrens (Peterborough) who each shot a pair of 79’s.
On the women’s side Georgian’s Cory Pond (Simcoe) finished in second place with a round of 85 and teammate Chloe Wells (Mississauga) was just one shot back at 86.
The Grizzlies busy season continues as they will compete in the Durham College Open on Thursday at Lakeridge Links in Whitby.
