Grizzlies Welcome New Staff for 2013-14 Season

Thursday, August 29th, 2013 – Barrie, ON – The Georgian College Athletic Department is pleased to announce several additions to the Athletic Staff for the 2013-14 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) season.

Joining the Grizzlies as Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams is Ross Ballantyne.

Ballantyne, a retired physical education and mathematics high school teacher of over thirty years, has a wealth of experience in coaching Cross Country Running.

He previously served as Thornlea Secondary School’s (Thornhill, ON) Cross Country and Track Coach before joining the Toronto Olympic Club where he coached the Women’s National Championship Cross Country Team.

The Grizzlies will be welcoming back a familiar face in Dana Campbell who will join the Grizzlies women’s basketball program as an Assistant Coach.

Campbell, spent four years as a student-athlete and is a former team captain of the Grizzlies women’s basketball team from 2007-2011. She was also recognized as a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Scholar during her time at Georgian.

The Orillia native has been very active in the coaching ranks having previously served with the South Simcoe Girls Ontario Basketball Development teams and she is currently the Barrie Royals Juvenile Girls (U17) Head Coach.

Also joining the Grizzlies staff is Kalina Adams who will serve as the new Athletic Therapist along with Matthew Sposito who will serve as an Assistant Therapist.

Adams will be responsible to work with Varsity Athletes to ensure they are prepared for the demands of the athletic schedule and to assist in the treatment prior to and following games.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ross, Dana, Kalina and Matthew to the staff,” said Georgian Intercollegiate Coordinator Jeff Harris. “We feel they will make a key impact to our new and returning student athletes this year and into the future.”
