It was a busy few days for Grizzlies Varsity sports this past weekend.
The biggest news of the weekend came from the golf course where Georgian’s Colton Kalkanis won the men’s individual title at the 2012 PING CCAA Golf National Championship in Oshawa, ON.
Colton became the first ever Georgian male athlete to win the gold at the event. To read more about the men’s and women’s golf teams tremendous showing at the nationals click here.
While golf got a lot of the attention it wasn’t the only sport that was in action.
The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams competed at the OCAA Cross Country Championship hosted by Algoma University at the Hiawatha Highlands Conservation Area in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

The Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams had a full slate of games each playing in their final exhibition tournaments before the start of the regular season. The men battled at the St. Lawrence Tournament (click here) while the women competed at the Lambton Tournament (click here).
Georgian’s Rugby Team wrapped up their regular season with a tough 19-13 loss to the Conestoga Condors on Sunday afternoon. With a 3-2-1 record the team will have to wait and see the remaining games wrap up from around the OCAA to determine their playoff opponent. More info here.
The Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Teams put in big efforts this weekend. Friday night Georgian hosted the Conestoga Condors and made it a clean sweep with both the men’s and women’s teams winning their games 3-0.
The Grizzlies Women’s Team then travelled Saturday and played in the Niagara Invitational Tournament and had a strong showing. The Grizzlies went 2-1 in the round robin and made it all the way to the finals before falling to the Humber Hawks, the only team to defeat Georgian in the tournament. Full recap here.
