November 03, 2014

The Georgian Grizzlies women’s volleyball team continued their great start to the 2014 OCAA season with a win over the Seneca Sting on Wednesday night in North York.

After splitting the first two sets with the Sting, the Grizzlies swept the last two to collect a solid road win by a 3-1 score (25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18) which improves their record to 2-0 on the season.

It was a big game for the Marshall’s from Orillia. Allison, a third year middle had a 15 point effort to lead the team while sister Erinn had a career high 10 point effort. Both find themselves in the top 15 in the OCAA of points scored through two games with Allison sitting in a tie for third overall.

On the men’s side the Grizzlies had a tougher time shutting down the Sting.

Georgian battled hard in all three sets but it was Seneca who was able to get the edge each time on their way to a 3-0 win (25-23, 25-19, 25-22).

Freshman Darien Haynes (Barrie) had a strong effort leading the Grizzlies with 12 points while sophomore Matt Boucher (Collingwood) had 11 points.

Both Georgian teams will be travelling to face the Canadore Panthers this Sunday in North Bay before playing their next home games against the Durham Lords on Nov. 7.
