The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s volleyball teams got back to their winning ways on Wednesday night when they travelled to face the George Brown Huskies.
After having their eleven game win streak snapped in their last contest, the Grizzlies women’s team rebounded in a big way against the Huskies.
After dropping the first set to their east division rivals, the Grizzlies came right back to take the next three sets to win the match 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-14).
The Grizzlies were once again led by Hannah Campbell (Midland) who had a game high 13 points along with teammate Jennifer Kelly (Innisfil) who played very well earning a season high 12 points.
The victory inches the Grizzlies one step closer to clinching first place in the OCAA east division and a bye to the OCAA Championship. Georgian will need a win in one of their two final matches to guarantee the top spot.
The Grizziles men’s team is in a battle for their playoff lives and stepped up when they needed to against the Huskies.
Both teams played an incredibly tight match with each set coming down to a few key plays which the Grizzlies were able to come out on top of leading to a 3-1 win (26-24, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23).
Justin Atkinson (Wingham) matched a season high with 18 points and last week’s Grizzlies athlete of the week Darien Haynes (Barrie) had 16 points.
The win puts the Grizzlies in sixth place in the east, one win ahead of the Algonquin Thunder who have a game in hand on Georgian.
