Oshawa, On – November 28th, 2012 – The men’s and women’s volleyball teams travelled to Oshawa to face the Durham Lords and things didn’t quite go as planned.
The women took on some stiff competition in the Lords who have only one defeat on the season, but the Grizzlies gave them all that they could handle.
After losing the first two sets of the match by very close margins of 25-21 and 25-23, the Grizzlies showed great determination battling all the way back to even the match at two sets a piece with victories of 25-23 and 25-20.
Heading to the final set the Grizzlies ran out of gas, falling to the Lords 15-9 and losing a tight match 3-2.
Hannah Campbell (17 points) and Natalie Buck (14 points) led the team in scoring.
The loss moves the women’s record to 5-3 on the season and they currently sit in 4th place in the OCAA east division standings.
The men’s team knew they were in for a challenge facing the undefeated Durham Lords. The Grizzlies battled hard giving the Lords all they could handle but dropped the first set 25-21.
Durham showed why they are undefeated on the season dropping the Grizzlies 25-16 in the second set. With Georgian on the ropes the Grizzlies were able to battle back taking the third set 25-21.
Unfortunately for the Grizzlies that’s as close as they could get falling 25-14 in the final set and losing to the Lords 3-1.
Last week’s OCAA men’s volleyball athlete of the week Lyndon Sonego led the Grizzlies with 14 kills in the match.
The men’s team now has a 5-3 record on the season and are tied for fourth in the east division standings.
