Grizzlies say goodbye to Buchanan after 10-year run
June 03, 2015

After a decade with the Georgian Grizzlies women’s basketball program, head coach Marnie Buchanan will not return for the 2015-16 OCAA season.

Buchanan, who has been part of the Grizzlies women’s basketball team the past 10 seasons, including the last eight years as head coach, has played an instrumental role in the growth of the program during that time.

“Marnie was a key part of the Georgian Athletic department over the last decade,” said Georgian’s Manager of Athletics, Michele McConney. “We can’t thank Marnie enough for her hard work, loyalty and dedication to the Grizzlies program. We wish her nothing but the best.”

During her time at Georgian, there were many highlights including being named OCAA east division coach of the year during the 2010-11 season in which the Grizzlies qualified for the provincial championship. Buchanan was also essential in the development of many student athletes who went on to be OCAA all-stars, including former Grizzlies superstar Summer Bly who became Georgian’s all-time leading scorer and fifth on the OCAA’s all-time list under her tenure.

Georgian will begin the search for a new head coach in the near future.
