The final game of the OCAA regular season had big playoff implications on the line for both the Georgian Grizzlies and the Conestoga Condors on Sunday afternoon in Kitchener.
Georgian were the winners of a tight contest in their first meeting back on Sept. 14 in Barrie by a 33-24 score.
The rematch would be another tough battle.
Georgian had two tries from Brandon Oliveira (Bradford) and singles from Robin Calamatta (Erin), Devon Jackson (Angus) and Jesse Twigg (Barrie) but it wasn’t enough as Conestoga defeated the Grizzlies 32-31.
While the win would have been nice, the Grizzlies were able to keep the match close which prevented the possibility of Conestoga overtaking Georgian in the standings.
The Grizzlies finished one point ahead of the Condors in the standings which clinched the second place spot and guarantees home field advantage for a crossover playoff game.
Georgian will play the east division’s third seed in the Algonquin Thunder on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Barrie Community Sports Complex. The winner of that match will move onto the semi-finals and guarantee themselves a shot at a medal.
