Barrie, ON – October 15th, 2013 – For the Georgian Grizzlies Men’s Rugby team the stakes were high and they knew it. A win Tuesday afternoon at home would clinch a playoff berth, where a loss would make things a lot more confusing.
The Grizzlies passed the test against the visiting Mohawk Mountaineers.
Georgian came strong out of the gate with second year Barrie native Paul Marshall scoring the opening try of the game just over a minute into the contest. Marshall would score two tries and add three converts to lead the team in scoring in what was a 66-8 win for Georgian.
Austin St. Amant (Tiny) and Chris Wood (Dundalk) also had very strong games for Georgian scoring two tries each in the victory.
The Grizzlies clinched a playoff spot with the win and guaranteed themselves another home game as they can finish no lower than second in the west region standings. Georgian has one remaining game in the regular season, a rematch against the Humber Hawks, the only team to defeat the Grizzlies this season on October 23rd in Toronto.
Georgian can win the division with a decisive victory over the Hawks to settle the tiebreak while a loss would seed the Grizzlies second and Georgian would host the 3rd place team from the east region at the start of November.
