Grizzlies mixed doubles qualify for nationals in badminton
February 18, 2014

Members of the Georgian Grizzlies badminton team competed at the 2014 OCAA Badminton Championship over Friday and Saturday at Humber College in Toronto.

The highlight of the event was the continued strong performance of Georgian’s mixed doubles pair of Maggie Tremblay (Rossport) and Trevor Neville (Barrie) who earned the silver medal at the championship.

After going a perfect 5-0 at the East Regional Championship one week prior, the duo went 4-1 in the round robin at the provincials before winning a semi-final match over the team from Redeemer. They then went on to lose a hard-fought match against the Humber team in the gold medal match. The Humber team was the only team to defeat the Grizzlies pair at the event.

The silver medal performance earns Tremblay and Neville a berth in Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Badminton Championship on Feb. 26 through March 1, hosted by NAIT in Edmonton.

Also competing at the event representing Georgian were men’s singles Ethan Zhao and Phillip Bruce, the women’s doubles pair of Emily Rosborough and Stephanie Forman and the men’s doubles pair of Josh Milligan and Dylan Roejskjaer who did not move on past the round robin.
