Thursday, March 7th, 2013 – It was a big day for the Georgian Grizzlies women’s indoor soccer program as they clinched a berth in the OCAA Championship after winning their pool at the regional qualifier hosted by Redeemer University College on Thursday, March 7th.
The Grizzlies put together an impressive performance leading to a 2-0-1 record finishing tops of their pool made up of the Durham Lords, Redeemer Royals and the Sault Cougars.
Delta Pilote scored the lone goal for the Grizzlies in their first match, giving Georgian an important tournament opening 1-1 draw against the Durham Lords.
The Grizzlies carried that momentum forward through the rest of the tournament with Pilote scoring again in a 1-0 victory over Redeemer which set up a final match against Sault College which with a win would clinch first overall spot in their pool for Georgian.
In one of their best efforts of the season the Grizzlies pulled out a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal by Nikki Baker who capped off a great performance throughout the day.
Grizzlies’ goalkeeper Allana Homenuk was strong in net allowing only one goal in the three games and posting two shutouts.
The first place finish gives Georgian their first ever berth in the OCAA Championship which will take place on March 21st-22nd at the OSA Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ontario hosted by Conestoga College.
