Grizzlies get big win in women’s basketball

January 6th, 2013 – Kingston, ON – Getting ready for a strong second half the Georgian Grizzlies women’s basketball team participated in the St. Lawrence Vikings Invitational Tournament this past weekend in Kingston, Ontario.

The weekend tournament held from January 4th through 6th featured eight Ontario and Quebec college teams competing for the title.

The Grizzlies opened up the tournament with the final of the day when they played the host St. Lawrence Vikings. The Vikings took full advantage of the home court controlling play from beginning to end finishing off the Grizzlies with a 91-36 victory.

Heading to day two, the Grizzlies faced an unknown opponent in the Nouvelles Fontieres from Gatineau, Quebec. For Georgian it was their second tough loss of the tournament dropping the game 81-27.

After having two difficult losses the Grizzlies looked to end the tournament on a high note when they faced their east division rivals in the Durham Lords.

The game featured a number of lead changes and some great play, but thanks to big efforts from Grizzlies Kara Faulkner (13 points), Kasey Faulkner (11 points) and Lauren LaSalle (7 points), Georgian was able to pull off a 57-51 victory.

For the Grizzlies it was their first win of the season.

Georgian will open the second half of their OCAA season on the road with trips to Loyalist and another game against St. Lawrence-Kingston this weekend.

They will return home on Wednesday, January 23rd when they host Durham College at 6pm at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
