Grizzlies Find Competition Tough at Badminton Championships
February 21, 2012

Ancaster, ON – The Georgian Grizzlies badminton team won the team title at the East regionals two weeks ago, but found the going much tougher at the OCAA Provincial Championships held this weekend at Redeemer.

The Grizzlies had qualifiers in all five events, but only the men’s doubles team of Brad McNeice and Trevor Neville managed to advance after round robin play was completed. McNeice and Neville lost to the top seeded team from George Brown, before dropping their bronze medal match to finish in fourth place.

Rebecca Trischler in women’s singles and the mixed doubles team of Logan Dayus and Maggie Tremblay were unable to advance to the semi-finals after dropping their final match of the round robin, while men’s singles player Guri Singh and the women’s doubles team of Nicole Wilkins and Ziying Yang went winless.

The gold medal winners from the championships will represent the OCAA at the CCAA National Championships in British Columbia next month.
