Barrie, ON – February 1st, 2013 – After a slow start the Georgian Grizzlies men’s volleyball team battled back only to come up short in a 3-2 loss against the George Brown Huskies Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The Grizzlies didn’t come out of the gate with the fire they hoped falling in the first set 25-12. After taking their lumps the Grizzlies came right back playing at the top of their game to take a tight second set 25-23.
Both teams went back and forth the rest of the match, with George Brown taking the third set 25-23 and the Grizzlies taking the fourth 25-17 to set up a big fifth and deciding set.
The Grizzlies and Huskies continued to trade points right to the end, but it was the Huskies who were able to come out on top in a 20-18 thriller.
It was a special night for a couple of veteran Grizzlies in Chris Graham and Andy Carriere who were honoured before the game as they were playing their final regular season home game for Georgian.
Graham and Carriere both played prominent roles in the Grizzlies victory. Graham, a native of Barrie had 7 points and 7 digs in the match while Carriere, a native of Chelmsford, had 13 points and 5 digs in the loss.
The Grizzlies with the loss now have a record of 9-8 on the season which puts them in 6th spot in the OCAA east division standings.
Georgian will play the next three games on the road at Algonquin (Feb. 9), La Cite (Feb. 10) and at Seneca on February 13th.
