Toronto, ON – February 17th, 2013 – Travelling to Toronto for a rare 11am early morning match, the Georgian Grizzlies men’s volleyball team had a berth to the OCAA Men’s Volleyball Championships on the line in their playoff crossover against the Humber Hawks.
It took some time for the Grizzlies to adjust out of the gate and were outmatched by the Hawks in the first two sets falling by matching scores of 25-15.
In the third set the Grizzlies found their game with big efforts by freshman Jason Grimm and three-year veteran and Barrie native Chris Graham, who helped lead the team to a 25-18 set win to get them back into the game.
In the fourth set both teams played a tight game exchanging points but with the Hawks leading 17-15 the game slipped away from the Grizzlies who couldn’t stop Humber and fell 25-19.
The 3-1 loss ends the Grizzlies season and their hopes at the OCAA championship but was a great against the defending national champions from Humber.
Despite the loss it was a great effort from Lyndon Sonego who once again put up a big game leading the team in kills (17), serving aces (2) and in digs (11). The Barrie native will be a big part of a solid young core the Grizzlies have for the future.
