Grizzlies battle but fall to Coyotes

Barrie, ON – December 2nd, 2012 – The Georgian Grizzlies men’s basketball team didn’t do themselves any favours Sunday afternoon falling to the La Cite Coyotes 76-65 in OCAA play at the Georgian College Athletic Centre.

Georgian couldn’t find their rhythm early and the visiting Coyotes took full advantage. With the game tied at 14, La Cite was able to go on a 9 point run to end the first quarter.

The Coyotes continued to pour it on early in the second quarter to extend their lead to 11 points, but the Grizzlies slowly gained some momentum as the quarter went on and chipped away at La Cite’s lead.

Trailing 38-30 at halftime the Grizzlies responded in the second half and came all the way back to tie the game and get up by as much as 6 points. As both teams battled back forth La Cite was able to take a 51-50 lead setting up a big fourth quarter.

The Grizzlies gave all they could but some key baskets by the Coyotes pulled them away in the end to earn the win.

Tevin Goodridge had a solid game for the Grizzlies scoring 18 points while Jevon Francis had 14 in the loss.

La Cite used a balanced attack with five players hitting double digits in points.

The Grizzlies men’s and women’s teams will wrap up their first half of the season this Wednesday when they host the Seneca Sting starting at 6pm. The Grizzlies will be having a teddy bear toss that night and anyone attending is encouraged to bring a stuffed animal with them to the game. At halftime of the men’s game all the stuffed will be thrown on the court and donated to the Barrie Christmas Cheer.
