Grizzlies basketball salvage weekend in Ottawa
January 26, 2015

As they head down the final stretch of their season each game grows more important for the Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s basketball teams.

The Grizzlies men’s team didn’t have the start to the road trip in Ottawa they were hoping for against the Algonquin Thunder on Saturday.

While the Grizzlies put in a good effort in a tight physical game against the Thunder it wasn’t enough as they fell 61-59.

Mark Brown (Toronto) led the Grizzlies in scoring with 13 points while Glody Madymba (Mississauga) played well in a 12 point effort.

Needing to rebound to salvage the road trip the Grizzlies came up with a big game on Sunday facing the La Cite Coyotes.

Georgian had big games from Braeden Wilkinson (Ottawa) with a team high 20 points, Tequilan Zwarych (Whitby) 18 points and Glody Madymba 14 points who were three of five Grizzlies with double digits in points on the way to a 88-67 victory.

On Saturday the Grizzlies women’s team ran into a team in the Thunder who were coming off their first loss in 67 games.

Algonquin recovered defeating Georgian 75-31 to get back to their winning ways.

The game wasn’t a complete loss for the Grizzlies as rookie Kelsey Dunkeld (Barrie) had team highs in points with 16 and rebounds with seven.

The Grizzlies will return to action on Friday when they host the Durham Lords at the Georgian Athletic Centre. On the men’s side it will be a battle between the top two teams in the OCAA’s east division.
