Janetville, ON – September 16th, 2013 – The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s golf teams put together an impressive showing at their first Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) event of the season on Monday.
Competing in the Fleming College Invitational in Janetville, Ontario Georgian’s men’s team were able to walk away with the title thanks to strong performances from Alex Wilson (Orangeville), Michel Sonnenburg (Massey), Clayton Connor (Newmarket) and Colton Kalkanis (Hillsdale). The group set the pace with a combined score of 313, defeating the Fanshawe College team by three strokes for the title.
Colton Kalkanis was the individual men’s champion of the tournament shooting a 70, four strokes ahead of the 2nd place Spencer Dunseith of Fanshawe College. Kalkanis is the reigning OCAA and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Champion and showed he is primed for another big season.
On the women’s side, the Georgian team who was ranked fourth in the CCAA heading into the season finished in second place at the tournament thanks to the duo of Cory Pond (Simcoe) and Chloe Wells (Mississauga) who shot a combined score of 172.
They were just four strokes off the pace set by the Humber College team who finished in first.
Cory Pond finished in second place in the women’s individual competition with an 84, just two strokes of the pace of Humber’s Adrienne D’Alessio.
Up next for the golf teams will be a trip this Saturday, September 21st to compete in the Fanshawe Invitational Tournament which will be held at the Forest Hill National Golf Club in London, Ontario.
