Men’s volleyball player Darien Haynes has been named Georgian Grizzlies Athlete of the Week after recording his fifth straight game with double digit point totals.
Haynes, a student in the Bachelor of Human Services program, had 16 points in the Grizzlies match this past Wednesday against the Durham Lords.
The Barrie native is in his first year with the Grizzlies and has been nothing short of impressive. He currently sits in second place on the Grizzlies in scoring with 3.2 points per set on the season, which is also good enough for 20th overall in the entire OCAA. He has been particularly strong in his last five games where he has been scoring at an average of 5.1 points per set.
Also in consideration for this week’s award was men’s basketball player Jonathan Edwards who had a career high 22 points this past Friday against Durham, women’s basketball player Hannah Pearsall who had 12 points and five assists in one game last week and women’s volleyball player Brittany Coughlin who had 11 points on Wednesday.
