Barrie, ON – September 30th, 2013 – Second year men’s Rugby player Conan Valyear has been named Georgian Grizzlies Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 29th.
Valyear, a wing was instrumental in the Grizzlies improving their perfect record on the season to 3-0 after defeating the Sheridan Bruins 14-5 on Saturday. A Barrie native, Valyear had a critical try in the game to help lead his team to victory.
So far this season through three OCAA contests, Valyear leads his team with 4 tries, which puts him among the league leaders as well.
“Conan has been a very important part of our team’s success to this point,” said Rugby Head Coach John Daggett. “His work ethic both on and off the field is difficult to replicate.”
In contention for this week’s award were last week’s winner men’s golfer Colton Kalkanis who won the individual title at the Niagara College Invitational and helped his team finish 2nd at the Durham College Open. Cross Country Runner Stephen Fennell was also in contention after an impressive 12th place finish at the Redeemer Invitational.
